Trust meets Lille charity walkers
The Iron Trust and Scunthorpe United striker Akpo Sodje, met four football fans who are walking from Sheffield to the French town of Lille to raise money for the MS Society.
Andrew Gibney, Scott Johnston, Chris Mayer and Nick Crookes visited Glanford Park on Sunday April 7, two days into their walk from South Yorkshire.
They were due to reach Lille on Thursday, having also stopped at Hull City, Club Brugge, Cercle Brugge, SV Roeselare, KV Kortrijk and Royal Mouscron-Peruwelz.
“The walk was inspired by my father-in-law; he was recently diagnosed with MS and after only a few years he struggles with his mobility and coming to face with this first-hand really makes it hit home how difficult this can be for families affected by the disease,” said Andrew.
“Something like this can happen to anyone, and why not try to do something amazing for a great cause when you still have the ability to do so. We would love as much support as possible, every single penny is gratefully received and I’ll see thank you now for anyone who donates to our great cause.”
They aimed to raise £2,000, but their total is already almost £900 over that. You can donate at http://www.justgiving.com/teams/WalkToLille.
Sodje also signed memorabilia that will be auctioned off to raise further funds for the charity.
