Bid for signed Alex Calvo-Garcia print now!
A signed print of Alex Calvo-Garcia’s iconic Wembley goal for Scunthorpe United and a framed copy of Jack Brownsword’s contract are among the items up for grabs at a fundraising event to help Scunthorpe steelworkers affected by recent job losses.
The Saturday February 13 race night will be hosted by the Iron Trust – a Scunthorpe United supporters group – as a fundraiser for themselves and those in the town who have lost their jobs in recent cutback.
Tickets are on sale now from reception at the Wortley Hotel (cash only) by calling Trust secretary John Needham on 07891789227 or going to www.theirontrust.com/events.
Calvo-Garcia’s Wembley goal sealed promotion in the 1999 Division Three Play-Off final with a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient.
The fans favourite has signed a limited-edition print of him scoring the goal, which has been framed and will be auctioned off on the evening. There are only two prints left, with the other being auctioned via social media bids.
The copy of Brownsword’s contract is a truly unique collector’s item and will be the star prize on offer at the final race of the night.
Iron Trust board member Luke Thornhill said: “We are grateful to our sponsors for helping us secure such great items, and hope people will come out in force to help such a worthy cause.
“Scunthorpe United supporters have already shown their support for their town’s steelworkers with the Save Our Steel Day before Christmas, and we hope this is an opportunity to add a few more pounds to the money raised then and help people who have been badly affected by the job cuts.”
Fans wishing to bid for the signed and framed print can do so by going to @IronTrust on Twitter, searching The Iron Trust on Facebook, or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
