Hello fellow Iron fans as we welcome near neighbours FC Halifax Town to the Attis Arena for this afternoon’s bank holiday clash. Given local interest, travelling Shaymen supporters should ensure another bumper gate.
The long-awaited Football Governance Review has slowly come to fruition and is now the Football Governance Act. The Act introduces an Independent Football Regulator (IFR) who will operate a licensing system for the top 5 tiers of men’s English Football. The Act will also create a new owners and directors test (which might raise an eyebrow among Iron fans), set a minimum standard of fan engagement and require clubs to comply with club heritage protection and seek IFR pre-approval for any sale or relocation of their stadium.
The above will please Trust assistant secretary John Needham no end. John has been involved throughout the process in making submissions to and on behalf of the FSA (Football Supporters Association). Our club ownership troubles and potential ground eviction all took place as the Football Governance Review was starting to take shape: very timely for all concerned. Well done Needers. The Iron Trust board was scheduled to meet last Wednesday night at the Berkeley Hotel and a packed agenda promised an eventful evening.
The headlines will be communicated via the member’s newsletter and forthcoming programme notes.
Well done to two local referees, firstly club official James Moody who was voted Lincolnshire FA Official of the year. Meanwhile fellow regular Iron supporter Shemackay Own
has been promoted up the Football League list and will now officiate at Northern Premier League and National North levels.
Meanwhile another high-profile supporter and Trust member local speedway rider Luke Harrison was disappointed to miss the play-off final v Chester due to riding commitments in Poland. Luke rides for several teams including the local Scorpions side where his bike covers proudly don our club badge. Luke made the Woking game having given up guest rides for Glasgow Tigers and Workington Comets respectively to watch the Iron.
Another member Ryan Middleton has been busy raising funds for the charity Mind, Ryan had to walk a minimum 12 miles a day for 7 consecutive days. Board member Bryn Gosling accompanied Ryan on one of his walks along with Reggie the dog. Ryan aimed to raise £500 and after our Woking newsletter plug the total more than doubled to £1200.
Up the Mighty Iron
