Chairs programme notes for Woking

Good afternoon and welcome back to the Attis Arena for the new season which sees our club back in the National League after two seasons in National North.  Good luck to Andy and the lads for the ensuing season.

The Iron Trust has continued to meet over the summer months: one of the first things we did was send a message of congratulations to our club n gaining promotion via the NLN play-offs.

Soon after we sent vice-chair Dave Beverley to the Stroke Unit at Scunthorpe General Hospital to present a cheque for £200 on behalf of our members.  This included proceeds from the Flag Day fund raiser; the rest being made up from Trust funds. Big Shuggy, aka Bryn Gosling, has now taken on the responsibility for Flag Day

www.irontrust.com the long promised and long-awaited redevelopment of our website has finally happened courtesy of Steve Godfrey, son of board member Susan.  Steve Hawes has made a sterling effort in ironing out potential IT teething problems pointed out by resident expert Matt Ellis. A big thank you to all three.

Membership has grown slightly over the summer months and now stands at 1192. Last season we gave away two of the125-year commemorative boxes, one via a random draw which included all members and the other successfully raffled via one of the ever popular 100 cards.  The latter also saw us raise £1000 for Ross Barrows and give away an orange 125-year commemorative scarf.

Our 24-25 player of the season award saw Callum Roberts pick up the rather smart trophy donated a few years ago by the Pocklington family.  The Trophy was presented by members Pete Hewes and Aaron Cheeseman; producers of the kit launch videos.

At the end of each month secretary Steve Hawes sends out an email inviting members to vote for their player of the month, the monthly awards contribute to the overall seasonal winner and we usually have a good voting response from members.

Don’t forget to quote the Scunthorpe United Supporters Society as your chosen recipient if you use Easy fundraiser as we get a commission which goes into Trust funds.  This season the Iron Trust has purchased a player sponsorship package for Carlton’s number 14 away shirt.  We shall be running one of our 100 football cards and the winner will receive Carlton’s shirt at the end of the season.

The next Trust board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 20th August, the night after what should have been the Morecambe home game. The plight of the Shrimps I am sure will resonate with Iron fans as we too were once in a similar predicament.  We send them our best wishes for the future.

Up the Mighty Iron
