Good evening as we entertain old friends Carlisle United at the Attis Arena for this 5:30pm kick off which is a televised game. Welcome to any Blues or Cumbrians fans making the journey.
It’s all go at the Iron Trust where Secretary Steve Hawes sent out our voting request for the September player of the month award last Saturday: the closing date for voting is today so if you haven’t done so already then please get your vote in. Who will join August winner Declan Howe? A big thank you to Howdens who are sponsoring the Iron Trust player of the month competition this season: they of course design and make kitchens.
We held our latest Iron Trust board meeting at the Berkeley Hotel last Tuesday evening and will be communicating relevant details as soon as possible. Ozzy packs the agenda which ensures our meetings are generally a near two-hour epic.
Travelling north for today’s game is Iron Trust member Jacob Small. Jacob, who has family in the Scunthorpe area, hails from Chandlers Ford in Hampshire which is on the outskirts of Eastleigh. Jacob was at the Silverlake stadium for the abandoned Eastleigh game and is hoping to be at the rearranged fixture on Tuesday 21st October against the Spitfires.
The next SAG (Safety Advisory Group) meeting is also on the morning of that Tuesday so if any member has any pressing issue they wish us to raise regarding the safety of fans then please drop us a line.
On the subject of safety a polite reminder to all supporters about the requirement for a fire safety certificate for any flags to be put up in the stadium. This comes after a recent misunderstanding with our own Vice-Chair Dave Beverley who travels the world supporting England and proudly displays his St George flag with Scunthorpe emblazoned across it. Bev could not produce his fire safety certificate and had to take down his flag v Boreham Wood.
Our Sharebuilder fundraiser to buy shares in Scunthorpe United FC has thus far raised £5700 we have two more months to raise the aspired £25000, so why not chip in supporting both the Trust and our beloved club. To donate use either our Credit Union account or the Go-fund-me account. Details are on our website – see www.theirontrust.com and click on “news”.
If supporters have a spare Saturday or Tuesday/Wednesday evening and are not following the Iron on the road then why not try one of our local non-league sides? App Frod, Barton Town, Bottesford Town, Brigg Town, Crowle Colts and Winterton Rangers all play in the NCEL (Northern Counties East League); the football is a good standard whilst facilities have vastly improved in recent years.
Up the Mighty Iron
Tony Gosling
Chair of the Iron Trust.
