Trust Chair prog notes for the biggest home game of the season – the Southend Play off eliminator

Good evening to all supporters as our two clubs enter the quarter finals of the National League play-offs, and the first of a potential three games culminating in a final at Wembley Stadium and the ultimate prize of League status for the lucky winner.

The latest Iron Trust meeting held a week yesterday at the Berkeley Hotel discussed a good range of items most notably our attendance at the club Shareholder meeting where Emily Thompson represented the Iron Trust; the rest of us being shareholders in our own right. Flag Day was also discussed, and we agreed that the charity this year would be the local Scunthorpe Branch of the Royal British Legion with the money ring fenced for a community project. Our IT strategy was also a hot topic, and we hope to utilise in house expertise to ramp up our core offer and improve this vital area. We are also keen to renew our offer of merchandise; therefore, our current stock is being offered at half price, please do not miss out on this fantastic offer on mugs, coasters, pencils, T-shirts etc.

The Iron Trust would like to formally thank Sharon Housam as our Auditor. Sharon who works in Finance at British Steel provides her services for free and therefore we thought it fitting to present a small gift to Sharon; a bottle of her favourite tipple.

The FSA AGM is to be held at on Saturday 6th June where the Trust has a motion on the agenda. The motion is to be seconded by our friends from the Imps Trust and our congratulations to our near neighbours on securing Championship football.

Congratulations also to Trust board member and Assistant Treasurer Jake Stockdale who ran the London marathon last Sunday. It’s not just the run it’s the preparation and gruelling training schedule prior which Jake had to put in.  He was raising funds for MACS and had raised £2846 on Just Giving London Marathon if anybody wishes to donate.

That just leaves me to thank the club Board of Directors and the many other people who helped save our club a few years ago when the Iron really had fallen from grace, firstly from League 1, out of League 2 and the exclusive 92 straight through the National League into the National North and now on the way back up. Whatever the result this evening our great club is on the up and most Iron fans would have settled for National League consolidation this season: therefore congratulations to Andy Butler and the playing staff for a wonderful season thus far, let’s hope it continues.

Up the Mighty Iron
