New Trust member – from Sweden!

We recently had a new member join online from Sweden. His name is Olof Terneborg so we followed it up to find out what is the link to the Iron. Here’s the email we received from Olof who lives in Stockholm (reproduced with his permission). Olof supports Djurgårdens IF who have started the season well in the Swedish First division (it’s a summer league, only 6 games played so far).

In his own words:

I saw Scunthorpe a few years ago at Loftus Road against QPR in the Championship.

That’s when I discovered a connection with my Swedish team, Djurgårdens IF. We had a manager in the 1950s (before my time) called Frank Soo. He led us to the Swedish first division title and later went on to manage Scunthorpe.

I also found some QPR connections: Ian Baraclough played more than 100 games for both clubs, and my favourite character in English football, Neil Warnock, played for Scunthorpe and was QPR manager twice. It is also interesting that both Kevin Keegan and Ray Clemence came from Scunthorpe.

Being born in 1960, English football was really the thing in the 1970s and 1980s. Since seeing Scunthorpe play QPR, I have followed the club’s results closely.

Finally, in November last year, a friend and I travelled from Stockholm to Scunthorpe. We stayed at the Royal Hotel from Wednesday to Sunday, went to a stand-up show, and visited The Honest Lawyer several times. We also went to Glanford Park for the game against Braintree, which ended 1–1. We spent time in the Sir Ian Botham Lounge before and after the match — a great experience. The pub outside the ground was excellent too, as was the club shop.

After our visit, I discovered DAZN, so I have watched almost every Scunthorpe game since.

We are planning to return next season.

We look forward to seeing you Olof!
