Trust Chair’s Rochdale programme notes

Good evening fellow Iron supporters as we welcome high flying Rochdale to the Attis Arena: a warm welcome to any travelling Dale fans making the cross Pennine trip on a rare Wednesday night home game as opposed to our regular Tuesday.

The last Iron Trust board meeting scheduled for Wednesday 18th March had to be postponed as many of the board were still on their way back from the Truro game as part of the Iron travelling contingent. That or away on a mini break between Cornwall and Essex for the Tinners then onto the Braintree match. The new date was yesterday evening at the Berkeley Hotel with highlights to be reported in the future.

I hear manager Andy Butler had a nice surprise, (or not), whilst exploring Newquay when a minibus full of Iron fans drove past him cheering. Another group of Iron fans were spotted playing footy on Newquay beach, whilst another happy chappy working for a fortnight in Padstow was reading the Telegraph obituary column online and thought he would have a quick look at the Iron and duly found himself cheering the team on as well.

Board member Brian Edwards has tendered his resignation from the board; Brian had been a co-opted member for two years and was recently elected as a full member of the board at our last AGM. Brian has led a full and interesting life and shared stories of his many travels around the globe. Brian will be missed and we wish him well for the future.

The Iron Trust board is now 8 strong and we have a place for one full board member, but we can also have up to 5 co-opted members. We are always on the lookout for aspiring board members and often invite potential members along to a couple of meetings to see if they are comfortable to join fully later. If you are interested, please speak to any board member at Trust corner or drop an email to us via www.theiron[email protected].

Iron Trust member Tom Smith has recently featured on national TV.  Tom who works at the Blast Furnaces in our local steel industry and is a Community Union representative watches the Iron when shift and family commitments allow. Sadly, he also supports a struggling London based premiership team who shall remain nameless. Nevertheless, well done Tom.

Special mention this week then to the 127 hardy souls who braved a 750-mile midweek round trek to the Cornish capital seeing the Iron win 2-1. Some travelled there and back in a day; others took the train including overnight sleepers.  Most had a few nights smattered around the various tourist towns, but only one found solace from the obituary column!

Up the Mighty Iron
