Trust Board member Dave Beverley has recruited 4 new Trust members during his trip to Dallas for the England v Cech game. Welcome to the Bellinger’s! That’s Dave, Maggie and their boys Henry, and Oxford (“Ox”). When I asked new member Maggie what her connection to the town was she replied as follows;
As for our connection to the town: we actually met a massive Scunthorpe supporter, Dave Beverly, in South Africa all the way back in 2010 right before the USA vs. England World Cup match. We happened to be staying at the same “bed and breakfast” and ended up riding to/from the game with him and his crew.
We’ve amazingly stayed in touch for 16 years, and when he came out to Texas for the World Cup this summer, he and his friend Lee stayed with us in Fort Worth. While he was here, he spent time teaching our boys about the club, sharing the history of British Steel, and the story behind the jersey design. He even brought the boys their very own Scunthorpe shirts! It was a great full-circle moment after all these years. I’ve attached a few photos for the newsletter if you’d like to use any/all.
